MyTribe releases expert PMI ratings for 2025

myTribe Insurance Experts has launched its 2025 Private Medical Insurance (PMI) ratings, helping consumers identify the standout health insurance providers and products in the UK market.
The increasing strain on the NHS, long waiting lists, and rising healthcare costs have made it more vital than ever for individuals to understand their private healthcare options, especially if they want faster, more flexible treatment. While the PMI market is generally well served by some high-quality products, it can be difficult for consumers to easily differentiate between providers and find the right policy for their needs.
What the 2025 PMI ratings focused on
The 2025 myTribe PMI ratings analysed each insurer's flagship health insurance product (the policies with the most comprehensive cover and options), focusing on their strengths and weaknesses across various factors that matter most to policyholders.
Combining data from various sources, including policy documents, provider websites and feedback from industry professionals and consumers, this year's ratings assessed 13 key health insurance areas. These included:
- Inpatient and day patient cover
- Outpatient cover
- Mental health cover
- Cancer cover levels
- Underwriting options
- The impact of claims on renewals
- Clarity of policy documentation and terms
myTribe's team of experts also examined each provider's level of customer service and spent countless hours pouring over their product literature to assess how important terms and conditions, such as exclusions, were communicated.
The final star ratings were awarded based on the total weighted score providers obtained for each of the assessed categories, with those scoring highly across most receiving a rating of five stars.

What the 2025 PMI ratings revealed
The 2025 PMI stars ratings revealed a competitive private health insurance market in which providers are continuing to innovate to stand out from each other. In some cases, already strong products have been further enhanced over the last 12 months.
The leading providers all offered strong levels of cover, but there were wider differences in some areas reviewed, such as mental health cover, customer service and the clarity of policy terms and conditions.
All of the flagship products scored well, but only four were awarded the full 5 stars.
